Avalon MSX

Avalon, finally on the computer it was always meant for.

Home at last

Jeroen and Bowie Derwort started out on the MSX, and Avalon was meant to be an MSX game. It was inspired by MSX classics like SD Snatcher, Pumpkin Adventure, Ys III and Dragon Slayer VI, and even its music tracker was modelled on the MSX's Moonblaster.

Making it on the MSX didn't work out back then, so the brothers moved to the PC, and in 1998 Avalon came out for DOS.

Now Avalon has come home. Avalon MSX is a port of the DOS game to the MSX2, the platform that inspired it and the one it was made for.

Self-booting 4 MB ROM cartridge. No disk drive, MSX-DOS or extra files needed
Saves
Five save slots in 8 KB of battery-backed SRAM

The machine

Minimum
MSX2 with 64 KB RAM and 128 KB VRAM
Graphics
SCREEN 5 (256×212, 16 colours from 512), double-buffered, with hardware sprites for Mace, villagers and monsters

The music

Sound cards
MoonSound, MSX-MUSIC, MSX-AUDIO, both together in stereo, or SCC+. The game offers whichever are fitted
Soundtrack
All 37 tracks, plus PSG sound effects

Recorded on an emulated Philips NMS 8250 with MoonSound. Turn the sound on.
