The village in the original 1998 Avalon
Where it all began

Avalon, 1998

Avalon started life in 1998 as a freeware DOS RPG, made from scratch by two teenage brothers, Jeroen and Bowie Derwort, in Turbo Pascal, with music composed in their own home-made tracker. In 2000 it won the ZDNet Shareware Award in the category Strategy, and it has been downloaded over 200,000 times.

The original is still free to download and runs great in DOSBox.
